The upazila administration has imposed Section 144 in Basail upazila of Tangail from 6 am to 6 pm on Sunday. The administration has imposed Section 144 in the wake of the gathering of freedom fighters of the Kaderia Bahini at the premises of the Basail Shaheed Minar on Sunday afternoon and the call for a gathering by the ‘Chhatra Samaj’.

The Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Mosh. Aklima Begum issued the order around 9 pm on Saturday.
According to local sources, a freedom fighter rally was organized at the premises of the upazila’s central Shaheed Minar at 3 pm on Sunday on the initiative of the Kaderia Bahini. Bangabir Quader Siddiqui Bir Uttam, the head of the Kaderia Bahini during the Liberation War and the president of the Krishak Sramik Janata League, was the chief guest at this rally. On September 1, the company commander of the Kaderia Bahini during the Liberation War, Kazi Ashraf alias Humayun Bangal, applied in writing to the UNO for permission for this rally. The application requested that necessary administrative action be taken.
Meanwhile, a person named Roni Mia filed a written application on September 5 on behalf of student leaders seeking permission to hold a rally at the same time and place under the banner of the student society. But Roni Mia’s phone number and full address were not mentioned in the application. The matter of who will be the guest at the rally was also not mentioned in the application.
However, Roni Mia said, “Efforts are being made to rehabilitate Awami fascists all over the country. So that Awami cannot rehabilitate fascists, we have called for a student society rally. Our rally will be very peaceful. No matter what obstacles arise, we will hold the rally at the designated place. Student society leaders will be present at the event.”
In this regard, Kazi Ashraf said, “We had applied for permission earlier. They have called a rally at the same place to sabotage the event of our freedom fighters. They could have held a rally before our event or the next day. We have no vendetta against them. We have already invited the guests and made all the preparations.’
Basail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jalal Uddin said, ‘Section 144 has been imposed in view of two gatherings at the same place. We are vigilant in this regard. Additional police will be deployed to avoid any untoward incident. There will also be an army patrol team.’
In this regard, UNO Mosh. Aklima Begum said, there is a risk of extreme deterioration of the law and order situation if two parties gather on the same date and at the same time. Therefore, Section 144 has been imposed to protect overall law and order and public life and property. This order will be in force from 6 am to 6:30 pm on Sunday.
